Electric car engine design

Electric car engine designs can vary, but most modern electric cars use an AC induction motor or a permanent magnet motor.


AC induction motors use alternating current (AC) to create a rotating magnetic field in the stator. This magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field of the rotor, causing it to turn and generate torque. AC induction motors are highly reliable and have a simple design, which makes them popular for use in electric cars.


Permanent magnet motors, as the name suggests, use permanent magnets in the rotor instead of an induced magnetic field. The interaction between the magnetic fields of the rotor and stator produces the torque needed to turn the wheels of the car. Permanent magnet motors are more efficient than AC induction motors, but they can be more expensive to manufacture.


In addition to the type of motor used, the design of an electric car engine also includes the battery, power electronics, and cooling systems. The battery provides the energy to power the electric motor, while the power electronics control the flow of electricity from the battery to the motor. The cooling system helps to dissipate the heat generated by the electric motor and other component .


The Kia EV9 2023 is the first electric vehicle to use the company's autonomous driving tech [1]. Nissan is expanding its line of electric vehicles with the 2023 Ariya SUV, which will go on sale in the U.S. in fall 2022 [2]. A new engine design, the Omega 1, could save internal combustion from the scrap heap [3]. This engine weighs just 35 pounds and can produce 160 horsepower (119 kilowatts) and is designed to be stackable for increased output [3].
